See the stunning transformation of this deck refinish using Behr Cordovan Brown Solid Stain.
Our backyard had a nice brick patio and wood deck with built-in hot tub when we bought it. The hot tub was about 20 years old and definitely not a selling point for my husband and me. We honestly didn’t think we would even use it!
But that all changed the first time we got in it. Sure, it only had a couple of jets and wasn’t very big, but it’s so relaxing to soak in, especially with our mountain views as the backdrop. During the first year we lived in the house, we got it the hot tub almost every night. But it started needing a lot of maintenance to the point we decided to replace it.
Built In Hot Tub Deck
Our hot tub was built into our deck. We assumed our new hot tub would simply replace it in the deck. However, our hot tub sales rep said that when hot tubs are built into decks, they’re more difficult to work on. She recommended putting the new hot tub on our brick patio.
This meant, we would have a giant hole in our deck that would need to be fixed.
Dark Brown Deck Stain
Since we were going to have to repair the hole in our deck, I figured it was the perfect time to refinish it! I found a great carpenter to do the work. He repaired the hole from our old hot tub with new wood planks and sanded it while I searched for stain colors. Our old deck was stained a reddish brown. In fact, the wood itself had a reddish tint to it. I was personally not a fan of the red. Because of this, our carpenter recommended a darker stain.
Behr Cordovan Brown Solid Stain
I researched a ton of stain colors and our carpenter sampled a few of my favorites. Always test stain colors on your actual wood, so you know how it’s going to look. Stains will look different on different wood types. Ultimately, I chose Behr Cordovan Brown.
It comes in a semi-transparent or a solid stain. I went with the solid stain for a richer, darker brown to match our new hot tub color. It absolutely transformed the look of our deck! In fact, I love Cordovan Brown so much we had our carpenter refinish and stain our front porch with the same color.
Is Behr a Good Stain for Decks?
Our deck was stained two years ago, and it still looks just as good as the day it was first done. We also live in a climate that gets a lot of snow. Through shoveling all winter long, our stain has held up great!
If you’re looking for a dark brown deck stain, I highly recommend Behr Cordovan Brown. I hope you found some good deck inspiration! For more outdoor ideas, click HERE.
