Discover the cutest dresser alternative cube clothes organizer to maximize storage in your bedroom.
Confession: I have a major addiction to loungewear. I would blame COVID, but this love affair started way before 2020. As I’ve gotten older, my style prioritizes comfort over fashion every time! I probably own 20 loungewear sets and these comfy numbers definitely require some serious space to store.
I’ve had a lot of dressers over the years, but my biggest challenge with them is that the storage capacity isn’t always that great. Not only do I love plush loungewear, but I live in a cold climate, so my clothes are naturally bulkier. Hanging everything isn’t really an option either because that eats up space really quicky, even with a larger closet.
I have a decent sized closet now, but that hasn’t always been the case. Several years ago, we were living in a house built in the 1940s and the closets were really small. I started searching dresser alternative options to substitute our lack of closet space.

Cube Clothes Organizer
I discovered the Ikea Kallax cube organizer on Pinterest. This storage shelf is super versatile! On Pinterest, it was being used to store everything from clothing to playroom toys. I thought this could be the perfect dresser alternative option, so I drug my husband straight to Ikea that weekend!
I bought 8 wicker baskets for the bottom 2 rows to store my loungewear and pj’s and folded sweaters across the top half cubes. However, my sweaters would become the leaning tower of pizzeria constantly and it drove me nuts! This is quite possibly due to the fact that tried to stuff too many in one cube.
If you are good about keeping your clothes neatly folded, this is a perfect option! I ultimately decided to buy another 8 wicker cube baskets to keep all my clothes neatly tucked away and out of sight.
Coastal Dresser Alternative
Wicker storage baskets are the perfect way to organize all of the clothes in your dresser alternative. These baskets not only keep my clothes perfectly organized, but the organic materials bring in coastal elements to complement my decor style.
The Ikea Kallax comes in several different sizes. I opted for the largest one for maximum storage capacity, and it’s less than $200! The coordinating Ikea wicker storage baskets on the other hand are pretty pricey, especially if you’re wanting to fill the whole shelf. I cannot remember how much I paid for them in 2016, but it certainly wasn’t what they’re selling for now.
Always competitive shop Amazon for dupes. I found some wicker baskets that are nearly identical to the Ikea ones but cost a fraction of the price.
Dresser Alternative for Small Space
Kallax 4×4 Cubes | Kallax 2×4 Cubes | Kallax 3×4 Cubes
If you’re working with a small space, the Ikea Kallax has multiple sizes of their cube clothes organizer. Choose the 3 cubes wide by 4 cubes high shelf unit if you want a slightly narrower version than mine. Or for really narrow spaces, opt for the 2 cubes wide by 4 cubes high unit.
For color, I chose white, but there are several more options. Between the colors and sizes, you can really customize this to fit your style. It’s also just an incredibly versatile organizer that you could use in a bunch of different ways too!
I have now had this Ikea Kallax for 8 years, and it’s been through 2 moves and is still going strong. If you’re looking for an affordable dresser alternative, this is a great one to consider!
I hope you enjoyed this post. Happy decorating!
