Our home is nestled in the Rocky Mountains far from any coast. The view from our living room window is something out of magazines. It’s the entire reason we bought this house and have decided to make it our forever home. Even though we are far from the ocean, I absolutely love coastal style. Crisp whites, calming blues, a classic stripe — this look is just so timeless and beautiful. But I needed a way to embrace the coastal style I love while nodding to the rustic mountain vibe that is all around our home.
Blending classic coastal style with rustic charm is a lot easier than you think. With just a few stylistic choices, you can beautifully blend these styles and create a space that is warm, beautiful, and comfortable (the most important!).

Coastal Leather Couch
If you’ve spent any time on my blog, you may already know my love for leather couches. Here’s the deal — I know a white couch is quintessential coastal but it’s just not practical to have in a house with two giant dogs who will be laying across it on the daily. Been there, done that and aint doing it again!
If you can keep a white sofa clean, more power to you! I finally committed to leather couches in our last house after living with a white couch for 4 years and regretting it from day one, and I’ve never looked back.
The people who bought our last home bought our leather couches (along with a bunch of other stuff!). That said, I knew I was reinvesting in a leather couch for this house. Not only are leather couches super easy to clean and care for, but they are oh so comfortable too.
Now, not all leather sofas are created equal. There are some styles that are quite dated and won’t complement a coastal design very well. If you love rustic coastal style, a modern leather sofa is definitely the way to go. Look for clean lines and high-quality leather in warmer hues like nutmeg or cognac. This beautiful brown leather sectional exudes rustic charm and helps bring in some of the rugged mountain aesthetic to our living room.
For pillows, I layered large navy chenille with classic blue and white stripes. A blue and white hand woven throw pillow in the corner brings in a beautiful organic touch. You’d be surprised how coastal a leather sofa can look when paired with classic coastal throw pillows.
Coastal Coffee Table
I really wanted a natural fiber coffee table to bring organic texture into our rustic coastal living room. Because our living room is pretty small, I opted for a round coffee table. This makes it easier to maneuver around it. I found the most beautiful jute coffee table that fit our space perfectly.
Jute is very coastal but also a very versatile material that will actually complement just about any style. I love how it softens the look of the rustic leather, adding coastal charm to our space.
Coastal Sofa Table
Because we have an open concept kitchen, dining, and living room, a sofa table is the perfect way to create separation of spaces. I chose a solid wood antique white table that paired perfectly with our Benjamin Moore White Dove walls. If you have the space, a sofa table is a great addition to your living room. Bring in the rustic coastal vibes with an off white or distressed console table.

Bring rustic charm and classic coastal vibes to your space by mixing organic materials with creams and blues.
Our built-in bookshelves feature a classic coastal blue and white striped ginger jar, blue and white books, and layer in more rustic elements like cane decorative boxes and oak wood arches decor.
On the coffee table, a blue tray, blue and white decorative box, and blue books bring in the coastal vibes while wood beads and a wood knot mix in rustic elements. It’s anchored by a charming blue, white, and gray area rug.
On the sofa table, a blue lamp and blue and white vase are the perfect coastal accents while wicker baskets and a natural wood bowl incorporate an organic, rustic aesthetic.
