Get tips for embracing Autumn’s festive feel with these easy coastal Fall decor ideas.
Fall is one my absolute favorite seasons! I love decorating for Fall, but I don’t like to go overboard in our coastal home (pun intended!). But seriously, I am not really one for knick-knacks. My sister will have 100 different Fall decor pieces inside and outside her home to the point you’ll think a hayride has literally exploded. I prefer to keep things a little more simple with subtle nods to the season.
You may be wondering how to incorporate Fall decor in a coastal home (navy stripes + orange pumpkins??), but it’s actually really easy! Get my tips for adding all the cozy feels of the season with my favorite coastal Fall decor ideas.

Swap in Plaid Throw Pillows
A plaid patterned throw pillow is a great way to bring in a seasonal touch to your home. This can actually work for Fall or Christmas. For Fall, look for neutral plaid pillows in cozy fabrics like wool or fleece. I picked a cute navy plaid lumbar pillow up at Target from Hearth & Hand, but there are also really adorable ones on Etsy. We have navy and white striped throw pillows on our sofa, which are very coastal, and the plaid pairs just perfectly for the Fall season.
Add Chunky Knit Throw Blankets
Our spring and summer throw blankets are very lightweight. For Fall, I like to swap in thicker, chunky knit throw blankets that not only look cozier, but they keep you more warm in the cooler weather. Choose a navy color palette to keep an ultra-coastal vibe or incorporate neutrals like gray or cream. I opted for a gray chunky knit blanket, which matches the gray in our Fall throw pillow.
Embrace Natural Plant Stems in Vases
Dining Table | Dining Chairs | Navy Rug | Mirror
There are only a small handful of faux plants in our house, because I prefer the look of real ones. I love to use dried pampas grass year-round because it complements coastal style so well, but it’s extra perfect for Fall. I also swap out our eucalyptus stems for orange dried bunny grass that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.
Hobby Lobby is my go-to for seasonal decor. It’s hard to recommend things online because you really need to be there in person. Head over in August or early September and you’ll find so many Fall stem options for your vases. Pair your Fall stems with coastal vases in navy prints or blue or clear glass.
Add Pumpkin Decor in Natural Materials
Target and Hobby Lobby are the perfect places to shop for pumpkin decor. Look for natural materials like jute, rattan, and rope to best complement coastal style. I’ve had this orange pumpkin for years, but I really want to add a couple neutral ones to my collection! If you love round tray decor, check out my round tray decor for every season post.
Incorporate Earthy Tones
Browns, tans, and creams help exude the feelings of Fall. Look for darker colored vases and candles , foliage in warm hues, and neutral accent pieces. I found the cutest jute rope balls at Target that I filled a glass bowl with to keep my coastal vibe. Try to mix and match dark and light pieces to create more balance.
Light Fall-Scented Candles
The scents of Fall are definitely my favorite. The second those pumpkin aromas start to fill the air, I am immediately taken back to my childhood with all the warm fuzzies! Target is my go-to for candles in general, but they always have good Fall scents during the season. Pumpkin Bourbon is one of my absolute favorites (which you can find in season at Target or year-round on Amazon).
I also love a pumpkin vanilla combo! I recently discovered Sweet Water Decor scents and they are amazing! Try their diffusers and candles on Amazon.
Add Fall Decor to Your Coastal Front Porch
You don’t have to completely swap out your coastal front porch decor for Fall. I am obsessed with our Nantucket white front porch planters, which are coastal style but very versatile! I change them out several times a year with the seasons and they’re so adorable. Layer a Fall doormat over a coastal rug on your porch and you can totally blend any season seamlessly. Even though coastal design is typically associated with warmer weather, you can totally blend Fall decor and your seaside style together beautifully. I hope this gave you some helpful tips for bringing touches of Autumn into your home. Happy Fall y’all!
