Discover the perfect coastal bathroom ideas to create a space with maximum function and style.
Coastal style is classic, clean, and versatile. From bright whites to blue hues, there are truly endless possibilities on how to get creative and make this look your own. Our house has 4 bathrooms, 3 of which I renovated with coastal style in unique, yet consistent ways. Check out my coastal bathroom ideas and find inspiration for your next renovation project.
All White Bathroom
An all-white coastal bathroom is probably one of the most classic and timeless bathroom styles you can go for. In our last house, we had 4 bathrooms, and I designed every single one of them to be all white.
Rather than installing new vanities, I had the existing cabinets painted Sherwin Williams Pure White, which is one of my favorite white paints. For the floor, I chose a large white hexagon tile that I absolutely loved. If you’re working within a budget, consider painting existing vanities and cabinets. A professional paint job can go a long way in making your bathroom look brand new!
My shower curtain is a 72” waffle weave in white from Pottery Barn. The exact one I bought is sold out, but they have a very similar one at PB Teen.
In our master bath, I had white subway tile installed which looked perfect with our hexagon tile floors. To finish it off, I chose white solid wood plantation shutters, which are the ultimate coastal window treatment. I installed them in our last two homes and miss then so much. I haven’t decided if I’m going to invest in them for our current house. Plantation shutters aren’t cheap, and I don’t want to install them again unless it’s our forever home.
Designing an all-white bathroom is perfect because it has mass appeal. If you’re considering selling your house in the future, choose a classic and versatile style like this to maximize your resale value.

If the all-white bathroom isn’t your vibe, soften the look by mixing in gray. Our current master bathroom has two white vanities and gray tile floors. I originally thought about installing white tile but decided to hold off and embrace the gray. The combination of the white vanities and the gray floors is really beautiful, and I’m actually loving the idea of keeping them.
Like our last house, I mixed in a white subway tile to really infuse that classic coastal style I was going for. The white vanities, subway tile, and gray floors create a gorgeous and classic coastal design.

The transformation of this bathroom from when we first bought our house is pretty amazing. Read about the full makeover in my White Master Renovation post.

Our guest bathroom is the only bathroom in the house we didn’t renovate. It had been recently updated with a double white vanity and gray floors. I love the dark gray floors against the white vanities. The bathtub also has subway tile to the ceiling, which I love!

When I was searching for coastal bathroom ideas, patterned tile was definitely at the top of my list. I know patterned tile has been trending for a while, but I was always too nervous to do it. It’s cool and fun, but I was so worried I would get sick of it!
I picked a gorgeous tile in a white/blue pattern that complements our solid white vanity beautifully. This tile is absolutely perfect for a coastal bathroom with all the different shades of blue. Of course, I had to mix in subway tile in our bathroom, because I’m a little obsessed with it.
I’ve had this tile for over two years, and I love it just as much as the day it was installed. In fact, I loved it so much, I put it in our laundry room! If you are on the fence about getting a patterned tile, go for it!

Navy Bathroom Vanity with Striped Wallpaper
Our powder room on the main floor of our house is our primary bathroom for guests. I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and do something a little bolder here. Since our 3 other bathrooms were white, I decided to inject some color into this space with a navy bathroom vanity.
I also did a striped wallpaper, which I had been dying to try, and I love how it turned out! It is truly the quintessential coastal bathroom. The powder room is the perfect place to have fun and do something more creative. Explore different color vanities and wall treatments in smaller spaces like this. You can read more about this makeover in my Navy Blue Powder Blue Makeover.
All of our updated bathroom vanities are from Wayfair. They are actually all from the same collection (just different sizes/colors), and I couldn’t be happier with them. If you are planning a coastal bathroom renovation, I highly recommend these!
I hope you found some inspiration with these coastal bathroom ideas. Bathrooms are probably my favorite rooms to design, and I had a blast renovating these spaces!
